Barton Coliseum

Anyone attending the Arkansas High School Basketball Championships this weekend will be pleasantly surprised by Barton Coliseum.
It doesn’t look like a basketball arena from the outside, but lots of new paint, chairs and lighting have dressed the old lady up very nicely on the inside. There practically isn’t a bad seat in the house.
There is a long history of high school basketball in Barton Coliseum and year should should be another success story.

Ah yes Barton. Site of undefeated Fort Smith Northside vs. undefeated Conway in 1974, won by NHS 37-32. There must have been a lot of fire codes broken that evening as Barton was overflowing an hour before the game, And a great game it was. Glad to hear the old lady has been spruced up.

It NEEDED some sprucing up, although I’m not sure how much that could help. I think the Swine building is in better shape to host basketball. I will have to see this for myself.

Barton is an embarrassment. And that’s for rodeos.

Wally, you are still an out of the loop idiot and a bigger embarrassment to Arkansas that Barton Coliseum.

What a mean-spirited comment. Why do you feel the need to rip Wally everyday? He’s the one having the last laugh because you are ready his “embarrassment” writings each day and commenting. There’s an oild adage that you should remember in your personal war against Wally: “Bad publicity is better than no publicity at all.” Your ugly comments are just more publicity for Wally. Keep writing, Wally!

I remember one time I was in Barton Coliseum doing to stretching when i looked over and saw what i thought was a bunny rabbit. I said “get out of here bunny” It looked at me and starting stetching. I thought surely this little rabbit doesnt want to race me around this building. I was just finishing up stretching getting ready to race the bunny in Barton Coliseum when i realized i had just ate a small bag of mushrooms several hours earlier. Needless to say the bunny and I had a pretty good laugh.

There is no way that story is true. You cant find good mushrooms in the Little Rock area.

Barton has been good for the state, but as far as basketball venues go, most high school gyms are better. For a large venue, go to Rhodes Field House in Searcy. The crowd is literally courtside on all 4 sides. You can sit 5 feet behind the teams. Barton can’t compare in any way with Rhodes for basketball environment.
