Hawgball

It took three years for Nolan Richardson to prove his style of basketball works.

The first two seasons he was at the University of Arkansas he went 12-16 the first season and 19-14 the next for a 31-30 record.

For those keeping record, Mike Anderson went 18-14 in his first season and is 12-7 in his second, for a 30-21 record.

Critics of Anderson need to be a little more patient.

Couldn’t agree more. Patience is indeed a virtue.

You can’t microwave everything. Sometime you have have to place things on 350 degrees and let it cook. Can’t plant a kernal of corn today and expect to eat corn on the cob tomorrow.

Mike will get it done. Nolan’s 3rd and 4th recruiting classes laid the foundation for what would become a juggernaut. From then on he was able to plug in the missing pieces from year to year.

I got to know Nolan when I was a radio sports reporter when we were both in Tulsa. I moved back to NW AR in time for the 85-86 season. When a local businessman made a derogatory questioning Coach’s ability to win at Arkansas, I said, “Give Coach Richardson four years and with his recruits, not only will he win 20 or more games, the Hog’s will win the Southwest Conference.” Well, he got the 20 wins in year three and SWC in year four. That’s when he got his guys in place. Look what Mike did at Missouri. The pattern will follow at Arkansas. WPS

Patience…AND…a Point Guard will make all the difference in the world. It’s been over a decade since we’ve seen a true, quality “1″ position player wearing the Razorback unis. Just like Coach B is building the foundation with O-Lineman, surely Coach MA has his eye on a QB/Point Guard to run his system. We have to believe; what else is there?

Can’t believe some are on Mike’s case already. He’s the right man to lead the basketball hogs back to year in – year out competitiveness.
