Who isn’t next Hog coach

A couple of quick things. First, Rutgers brings a good defensive line and pretty good overall defense to Fayetteville.

The Scarlet Knights offense is not so good, but Louisiana-Monroe looked like a Top 25 team against the Arkansas Razorbacks defense.

There is going to be a lot of discussion in the coming weeks about the next head coach at Arkansas, and while it has already been stated here it won’t be Jon Gruden, I can honestly say that at this point I only know who it won’t be.

It won’t be Steve Spurrier, Nick Saban, Les Miles or Pete Carroll.

It won’t be Houston Nutt, Bear Bryant or Jim Tressel.

And most likely it won’t be Bobby Petrino. When Petrino made his recent confession, he did it on national television, not local.

If he thought he had a shot at returning to the Razorbacks that interview would have been done in Arkansas. To further illustrate that, the interview was done in his home state of Montana.

There are a lot of people who won’t be the next coach at Arkansas, but right now what Jeff Long and the Razorbacks Nation need is for there to not be openings at schools with better facilities.

The talent pool is shallow enough for head coaches who are interested in Arkansas.

If you want to follow a dark horse in this race, keep an eye on Louisiana-Lafayette’s Mark Hudspeth, who led the Ragin Cajuns to nine wins last year and a 32-30 win over San Diego State in the New Orleans Bowl.

Not saying he’s on Long’s list, just that he is a good coach who can recruit players and fans.

Also watch what Gus Malzahn does at Arkansas State now that he survived Oregon and Nebraska.

You are definitely the last place hog fans will look for information during this coaching search. Your babble is mostly rumors and crap you make up.

Too bad you stopped working years ago and no longer have legitimate sources anywhere. You are an embarrassment and will be one of the last people in Arkansas to know who the new coach will be. Then you will write a column acting like you were on the inside of the decision making process all along.

You are a complete joke and your time is up. Do us all a favor and retire.

Obviously you are looking here Patrick! I told you to stay off the computer. Now get back to your room and watch that Teletubbies movie that I put on for you!

I continue to believe that Gary Patterson would be the ideal fit. He wins with inferior talent. His team are aggressive and fundamentally sound. He has always found ways to defeat teams that have superior facilities and resources. He obviously knows his way around the Metroplex, which has always been a key recruiting area for the Razorbacks. Northwest Arkansas is a great place to retire. He is originally from Kansas, which is close to Fayetteville. I believe that it would be an excellent fit. T.C.U. might be difficult to leave. But there are many positives about the Arkansas job. Namely, the SEC, the fans and tradition.

The question should be who will be the next A.D.? Jeff Long is a joke. For someone to have such a serious lack of judgement as to hire someone as embarrasing as John L. Smith, even on an interim basis, shows he is not up to the job of being A.D. at a major University.

Wally, you keep saying Gus though I have never seen you at a luncheon or heard of you reporting from Jonesboro. If you were, you would have heard him say several different times that this is not an option.
His supporters and the new programs going into Jonesboro (like the $22 million facility) combined with his Christian upbringing; the way he handled himself during your Mustain scandle; and his recruiting classes are going to push ASU to a top 25 type of team.
Given, our defense doesnt assure us a spot anytime this year….but then again obviously neither do the Hogs.

The great part about you continuing to post it is showing how bad you want him up there. Thank you for the ammo.

On a side note, you need to look at Terry Donahue. He’s a little old but could be sought for your range.

    Hey Wally.
How do you know it won’t be Jon Gurden, Steve Spurrier, Pete Carroll, or Bobby Petrino? Has Jeff Long talked to these coaches already and Jeff told you they declined? Have they been asked? Have they said NO? Or maybe you are just speculating?
We need a big name coach for recruiting. It is obvious that we have to get a coach that can recruit outside of Arkansas. This has always been the major problem for the Razorbacks because we just don’t have enough athletes here in the state.
I love the Hogs and have for 50 years. I am a season ticket holder and have been for a lot of those years. They have come close a few times but have always came up short. Needless to say they have broken my heart along with many other Hog fans.
I think it is time we hire a big name successful coach that can recruit. Recruiting is the key to any type of long term success. Let’s pay him more than any other coach and hold him to the success we desire and deserve. A coach that can, and will put the Razorbacks program in the national spotlight in a positive way. Recruiting is the key to any type of long term success. Let’s see if we can start a tradition of expecting a National Championship like Alabama does…
Razorback fans want and deserve a National Championship. A National Championship tradition takes big time coaching and big time recruiting. Period !!!

Gus Malzahn was a great coach calling plays for Cam Newton, but what happened at Auburn after Cam ……. 8-5, not what most people would call great. More Houston Nuttish …… than Bear Bryantish.

Many people say Gus Malzahn is a great coach, but I think the yardstick is your record, not what people think or say.

We will see in another couple of years, but if you believe Gus Malzahn will be coaching the Razorbacks next year, I want a hit off what your are smoking.

I agree with that post. I think his play calling is geared for more of the No-Huddle, hurry up, flee-flicker style of play which can only be accomplished (in my opinion) with at least one very good receiver and a stud of a running back (keep’em honest). David Oku is good, but not great yet. Josh Jarboe is one of a kind but it all doesnt matter if our defense gives up 40+ a game.

Gus stated he is getting his feet wet by relying on his staff and allowing them to call plays, though you can see his frustration sometimes when he’s not involved.

I have seen every game so far and the hurry up style hasnt been as often used as I thought it would be…

Im rooting them on though. West Kent will be true test.

You have the wrong Oklahoma coach. Bob Stoops will
    Be the next head hog.
