Uniforms and a playoff

There will be a lot of debate about the Arkansas Razorbacks new football uniforms.

The main thing will be to win in them.

When they wore red pants in the past and won, no one seemed to notice much, but if they lost, there was an outcry about tradition.

In other college football news, here’s the latest official statement about a college football playoff after Wednesday’s meetings between 11 conference commissioners and Notre Dame’s athletic director:

“We made progress in our meeting today to discuss the future of college football’s post-season.  We are approaching consensus on many issues, and we recognize there are also several issues that require additional conversations at both the commissioner and university president levels.

“We are determined to build upon our successes and create a structure that further grows the sport while protecting the regular season.  We also value the bowl tradition and recognize the many benefits it brings to student-athletes.

“We have more work to do and more discussions to have with our presidents, who are the parties that will make the final decisions about the future structure of college football’s post-season.”

Hello Wally Hall: My name is Doug Kavulich and I live in NW Arkansas and have lived here for over 7 years. I enjoy your column and writings over the years and have become a Razorback fan.

I want to let you know that I graduated from and played football at Rutgers University from 1988 to 1992 as an offensive lineman. I just read your column in today’s Sunday, August 26th sports page and Like It Is column…..It is very awesome for me and RU grads that the Scarlet Knights are playing in Fayetteville and at an SEC venue. Now living in the NWA area, this is a great event for me and and my family. Yes, Wally, you are right, the Big East is a premier basketball conference but….please do some research on the rise of Rutgers Football under coach Greg Schiano and to where the program was and where it is now!!! Please, please look at the football records prior to Schiano and after and what an un-told story this is for Wally’s readers, especially for game week.

Even if the Hogs crush the Knights, please look at some positives for the Rutgers football program and how far we have come. If you have any questions, please reach out to me……Thank you, Doug K.
