Huge Week
As we head into one of the most exciting weekends in Arkansas for sports it is interesting how many people are still excited about the hiring of Mike Anderson.
I’ve written Sunday’s column about some people I ran into at the Final Four and what they had to say about the Anderson’s hiring.
What makes the Razorbacks Nation’s excitement interesting is that this is a huge week for football, horse racing and amateur basketball in the state.
This Saturday, April 16, will feature the annual Red-White football game, and it will be televised at 3 p.m. Only four schools’ spring finales were chosen by ESPN, so this is an honor for the Hogs.
It also gives one reason to believe that at least the college part of ESPN is no longer mad at Bobby Petrino for leaving the Atlanta Falcons for the Arkansas Razorbacks.
I’d never seen one college coach so vilified for escaping a terrible situation and landing in an ideal one.
Also on Saturday will be the 75th running of the Arkansas Derby, which has become a major prep race for the Kentucky Derby.
Not only has this race launched several Triple Crown winners in the last seven years, but Bob Baffert, based in California, brought one of his better colts to Hot Springs.
On Friday, April 15, running through Sunday, April 17 is the 7th annual Real Deal in the Rock, the spring kickoff for youth basketball for ages 10-17.
This is a huge deal in the world of summer basketball, and more than 500 teams are expected to compete.
And with all that going on, people are still talking about Mike Anderson and the future of Razorbacks basketball.

Read your column on 12-22-16 and its a crock of crap about our basketball program falling to crap during Stan Heaths and John Pelphreys tenure. We were already on the down hill slide with Nolan Richardson, who by the way thought he was bigger than the program with a racist chip on his shoulder at the time and got sent packing, which he so deserved. We’re no better off now with Mike Anderson than we were with them as a whole. We’re still no where with basketball unless you like mediocrity, of which we’re well accustomed to now at Arkansas. It may be all fine to be a great ambassador and graduate players too, wonderful, but how winners and consistent winners at the U. of A. , our flag ship college. We’ve got to stop living in the past and come to reality and be in the future. I don’t accept mediocrity, no excuse for it. How about that Duke coach, the Nick Saban of basketball.
